What liquor or spirits should I keep my bar stocked with?

Posted in Spirits  on August 31st, 2008 by: admin

I just bought a new house and there is a built in bar in one of the rooms and I am trying to generate a list of the best/most common/standard wines, liquors, spirits, mixers etc to keep it stocked with.

Assuming this bar is being stocked for entertaining, you should spend a little $ and get some name brand liquor. The most popular brands I would recommend are:
Absolute, Grey Goose or Ketel One Vodka
Tanqueray Gin
Bacardi Rum
Cuervo Tequila
Triple Sec (any bar brand is fine)
Seagrams 7 Whiskey
Jack Daniels Bourbon
Dewars Scotch
These are just basic liquors to get you started, if you want to expand to more fancy liquors like after dinner apertifs here are some examples:
Grand Marnier-orange flavored brandy liqueur
Kahlua-coffee flavored
Frangelico-hazelnut flavored
Bailey's Irish Cream
Courvosier-cognac
there are also a wide assortment of flavored vodkas and rums out there if that is something that interests you.
I know this is getting lengthy but bear with me…
You should also carry some basic mixers like:
club soda, tonic, cola, lemon lime soda, ginger ale, whiskey sour mix, rose's lime juice, grenadine, cranberry, oj, pineapple, and grapefruit juices.
As far as wine, there are so many brands out there, I would get what you like to drink or ask someone at the liquor store to recommend something but basically a bottle of red and a bottle of white(chilled) should get you started. The cool thing about entertaining is if your friends know you have a bar they usually bring a bottle with them so if you start w/ the basics your bar stock will grow on its own. With this list on hand you should be able to make most popular drinks. I have to admit to a little jealousy. I wish I had a bar at home. Good luck to you!

What kind of wine should I order for a winter lunch date?

Posted in Wine  on August 31st, 2008 by: admin

I have a date at a wine and cheese restaurant this week. I live in Florida and the place is outside. It's not cold at all yet, but I was wondering what type of wine is appropriate for the season so that I can look classy and educated.

Additional info: I don't like super dry wines or tart wines.
I will probably get a salad with grilled chicken in addition to a cheeseboard that includes 3-4 cheeses, bread and fruit.

if you don't want to go super dry or tart - try going with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir - something from a cooler climate - if you want a red (will go well with a cheese sampler)

if you want a white and don't want to ultra dry - you can go with a muscat - some are very sweet - others slightly acidic with a little bite - they're pretty versatile - and you can seem knowledgable about it by having a "little" info - and asking your server some paticular questions.

Is it safe to clean a motherboard using methylated spirits?

Posted in Spirits  on August 30th, 2008 by: admin

Long story short, i think some cocoa (don't ask) may be shorting some tracks, i was wondering if methylated spirits (or denatured alcohol in america) is a suitable choice for cleaning this off. I know it'll strip any paint/ink, but i can't really think of any other liquid suited for cleaning PCBs. Any other suggestions or confirmation of metho would be appreciated.
I'm not planning on sending it back in for warranty or anything, the cleaning is purely to try and fix the problem my self. It's a really weird problem, but i won't go into it here.

There is something called contact cleaners….they come in aerosol cans and mostly the brand i have seen is from the crc range….they are good…it does not leave residue what so ever…look for it at a hardware or electronics store…remember it comes in a aerosol can

What wine can be good for desserts? Would it be the Chianti wine?

Posted in Wine  on August 30th, 2008 by: admin

I read from a book that Chianti wine is good for lighter dishes. I just want to know any good wine for desserts.

Chianti's are definitely good for lighter dishes - I tend to pair it with pasta dishes. As for what to put with dessert - try port, icewine or late harvest wines. The concept behind a perfect match in this category is to not let the wine be sweeter than the dessert. If your dessert is fruit based, try a Late Harvest Vidal or a Vidal (or Riesling) Icewine. If you are having something chocolately, go with a red Icewine like Cabernet Franc or Shiraz Icewine.

Ghosts , Poltergeists and Spirits - Caught on Film (Warning ! this footage contains shocking and scary Material Not For The Weak 18+) Note: be respectfull to people when you sign the guestbook. NO INSULTS. they Will be removed !

Separate existences
Poltergeists might simply exist, like the “elementals” described by occultists.

Another version posits that poltergeists originate after a person dies in a powerful rage at the time of death. According to yet another opinion, ghosts and poltergeists are “recordings.” When there is a powerful emotion, sometimes at death and sometimes not, a recording is believed to be “embedded” in a place or, somehow, in the “fabric of time” itself. This recording will continue to play over and over again until the energy embedded disperses.

However some poltergeists have had the ability to articulate themselves and to have distinct personalities, which suggests some sort of self-awareness and intent. Practitioners of astral projection have reported the existence of unfriendly astral life forms, which Robert Bruce called “negs” (whom we might also identify with elementals). If they exist, these may well have the ability to affect the physical world

Ghosts, spirits, poltergeists, hauntings and apparitions have been reported in one form or another by every culture throughout history. Should it be so surprising that you might encounter such a paranormal phenomena? Not really.

Exactly what ghostly events and hauntings are is open to debate. It is one of the most under studied phenomena … probably because object of study will NOT stay put long enough to be studied. More often than not, ghostly events have fallen more under the domain of spirituality or religion than science … but that has begun to change.

Those who believe in ghosts and poltergeists and those who do not are divided by a very definitive line … once you have seen a ghost or experienced a haunting, you believe. It is a very unique and unexplainable experience that only the word “ghostly” applies too.
